Wow, what a great day to be a Wildcat. These athletes have been training for months, putting in hundreds of miles over the season, and their hard work keeps paying off. The process is working and we are seeing everything come to fruition. We had 4 out of 6 boys and 4 out of 5 girls run either a season best or a new overall personal best.
In the boys race Connor Green went out hard and came through the first mile with a blistering time of 5:02. From there he continued to compete and challenge for the lead as he and a couple other runners pulled away from the pack. Running down the stretch Connor made a final charge, eating up the gap between him and the second place runner but ultimately finishing just a step behind for third place overall and 2nd in the Southwest division, with a season best time of 16:23. Oliver Crosthwaite and Daniel Osborne went out with PR’s on their mind and were not disappointed. Oliver crossed the finish line with a new PR of 17:33 and Daniel’s time of 18:56 was a new personal record as well. The fourth finisher for the boys team was Caleb Osborne who had an incredibly strong performance and got himself a new PR, beating his best time from last season, as well with a time of 20:24. Connor Cole (21:21) and Titus Routson (30:02) rounded out the scoring for the Wildcats.
The girls had somewhat of a challenging race. Majority of the girls were fighting some type of discomfort, but they fought hard! Laila Black had an impressive run with a 5 second personal record and 14th place overall (22:53). Kydee Shults was the next Wildcat to cross the finish with an amazing 20 second personal record (23:46). Bryley Wulff and Sarah Wallace crossed the line in 3rd and 4th with Bryley having a season’s best. Rounding out the Wildcat field was Julionnya Junaitis with a 2+ minute personal record (30:21). “It was awesome to see the girls grit their teeth and compete on Saturday. These girls have improved so much this season, and I am sad the season is slowly coming to an end,” Coach Hill states.
Congratulations to Connor Green on earning 1st team all SWBL and to Oliver Crosthwaite and Laila Black for earning second team all SWBL. Congratulations also go out to Daniel Osborne and Kydee Shults for earning SWBL honorable mention. This Saturday we travel to Cedarville for the OHSAA district championship meet, where the boys team will compete in the division I race, where the top 28 individuals will advance to regionals, and the girls will compete in the division II race where the top 32 individuals will advance to regionals. It is going to be a great day for racing, and we are looking to advance as many runners as possible. Come cheer these athletes on at their races at 12:15 and 1:00pm.
