On Saturday the track teams travelled to Harrison for the Harrison Wildcat Opener Track Meet. The weather started out chilly, but warmed up throughout the day, and the sun was shining bright. It was a great way to start the season and there were some phenomenal performances from our own Wildcats to start the competitive season.

On the girls side of the meet, the team was led by Laila Black, who earned 12 points by finishing 3rd in the 1600, 4th in the 800 and as part of the 4x400 team that finished 5th. Other major contributors to the girls team score were Reagan Pieschel, who earned 4.75 points as part of the 4x100, 4x200 and 4x400 meter relay teams in addition to running in the 400. Jaylene Ashley contributed 4 points to our team score as well by placing 7th in both the discus and shot put. One of the other best performances of the day came from the girls 4x200 meter relay team that finished 2nd overall with a time of 1:55.00. That relay team was made up of Savannah Steiner, Reagan Pieschel, Sienna Finton and Roe Perkins.

For the boys team the top point scorer was Hunter Cook, who placed 4th in the 110 hurdles, 6th in the 300 hurdles and was part of the 6th place 4x100 meter relay team. Oliver Crosthwaite also made major contributions to the team score placing 5th in the 800 as well as being part of the 5th place 4x800 meter relay team and the 6th place 4x400 meter relay team.

On Tuesday the Wildcat track teams made the short trek over to Fenwick for the Bishop Fenwick Invitational. The weather was ideal with temps in the 70’s and plenty of sun. There was a lot of competition with 16 teams in attendance and more than 60 athletes participating in some events.

On the boys side we came away with some great performances even with many athletes missing for spring break. Hunter Cook was the top point earner by finishing 5th in the 110 hurdles with another PR for this season. In the 3200 Daniel Osborne ran a great tactical race, finishing 6th overall. Other top performers with new PR’s for the season were Cherif Sore in the 1600 & 400, Milo Wilcher in the long jump and Aiden Carter and Andrew Heinzman in the 100 & 200.

The girls team finished the meet in 7th place overall with 37.5 points. They were once again led by Laila Black who earned 15 points by taking first overall in the 3200 (10) and 4th in the 400 (5), both new personal records. Other top scorers for the girls team were Millie Nau, with 8 points from a second place finish in pole vault, Sienna Finton with 7.5 points from finishing 7th in the 400 and tied for 3rd in high jump, Savannah Steiner and Jaylene Ashley with 3 points each from 7th place finishes in the long jump and shot put, respectively.
