On Saturday the cross country teams travelled to Cedarville University for the Southwest Ohio Division II cross country championship meet. All of our athletes were poised to have great races and compete for spots at the regional meet the next weekend. Entering the meet both our boys and girls teams were ranked just outside of the top 10, which is where they needed to be in order to advance. However, they gave everything they had and came away with some impressive finishes.
Our day started with the girls race at 1:00 pm, with warmer than normal temperatures for mid October and sunny skies. As the race started the Wildcats got off well and put themselves in position to advance. When all was said and done 4 of our ladies were able to punch their ticket for regionals qualifying to the meet as individuals. Our ladies that will be moving on to compete next weekend are Laila Black, who was our top placer at 27th with a time of 22:44, she will be joined by Gigi Perkins, Kydee Shults and Bryley Wulff to take on the course along the river in Troy next Saturday.
In the boys race our team was able to overcome an injury to one of our top runners and still qualify as a team to regionals with an 8th place overall finish. The team was led by Oliver Crosthwaite who finished in 13th place overall with a time of 17:27, he was followed by Daniel Osborne in 33rd (18:30), Kellen Dunn (20:18), Cherif Sore (20:27), Caleb Osborne (21:14), Tre’son Henley (21:19) and Donovan Schuyler (21:40), who managed to complete the race even with a partially torn muscle.
With the boys team qualifying and 4 individual girls, this is the most qualifiers for the regional meet that Franklin High School has ever had. The girls Regional Championship race on Saturday starts at 1:40pm followed by the boys at 2:20pm. Come out and cheer them on. Tickets can be purchased @ Lets go Wildcats!
