On Saturday your Wildcat cross country teams travelled to Bellbrook for the Richard and Iris Black Bellbrook Invitational. This is always one of the runners favorite courses as it has a true cross country feel to it with long wooded sections, rolling hills and multiple creek crossings. This is the teams final tune up before the post season and they all made sure to take advantage of that, after a tough week of workouts and their highest mileage of the season.
Races kicked off with the varsity boys at 9am and the weather and course were perfect. The air was crisp, the grass was dewey and the boys were amped and ready to race. Oliver and Daniel went out fast to pace the team coming through the first mile marker in 5:22 and 5:37 respectively. As the course weaved and undulated through the woods they continued to challenge the leaders. Oliver Crosthwaite managed to finish 8th overall, out of over 100, with a time of 17:34. He was followed by Daniel Osborne (19:01), Caleb Osborne (21:35), Brian Davidson-Cunningham (21:38) and Brennen Dunn, with a new PR of 24:24, to round out the scorers for our team.
The girls race began at 9:40 and the ladies were prepared and ready for the hills and creeks to come. Laila Black led the charge with a 6:36 first mile and never let up, finishing 15th overall with a time of 22:16. She was followed by Gigi Perkins (23:31), Kydee Shults (23:35), Bryley Wulff (25:03) and Brooklyn Hall (25:11) as the scoring members of the team to finish 5th out of 10 schools.
The teams are off this week with homecoming and to get in some extra preparation for the SWBL Championships, which will take place on Saturday October 11th at Fort St. Clair Park in Eaton.
