On Saturday the cross country team travelled to Cedarville University to compete in the Friendship Invitational. Though the course was a little dry, the rest of the conditions were just about perfect, setting the stage for some new personal bests as the Wildcats enter their final stages of preparation for the post season.
The day started with the boys race going off at 9am. Oliver led the way with his second best time ever of 17:28 and right on his heels with a huge new personal best time was Daniel Osborne finishing in 18:14. Cherif Sore finished in 3rd for the team and also had a new personal best, with a time of 20:21 and Kellen Dunn (20:39) was right behind him and his twin brother Brennen Dunn finished 5th for the team with a personal best time of 24:37 to round out the scoring for the Cats.
The girls race took off just after the boys finished and the sun was starting to het things up. Laila Black went out hard passing the first mile marker in just 6:40 and worked hard to through the rolling hills of miles two and three to come away with a time of 22:48, her third fastest time of the season. Kydee Shults was locked in and keeping a great pace to finish second for the team in a time of 23:39 and was followed by Bryley Wulff with a 24:26. Rounding out the top five for the Wildcats and completing our scoring was Gigi Perkins (24:51.5) and Brooklyn Hall who turned in a new personal best time of 24:52.
The Wildcats have one more tune-up race next weekend then a short break before heading into the post season. The Cats travel to Bellbrook Saturday to run in the Richard and Iris Black Invitational, which has a true cross country feel to it, as the majority of the course is on winding trails through the woods that criss-cross over a creek.
