On Saturday night the Wildcat cross country teams travelled to Piqua for what was the best day of racing so far this season. The atmosphere was electric with fireworks lighting up the sky at the start of each race, and the Wildcats making some fireworks of their own with nearly every runner producing new personal best times.
The night started with the JV boys race and 3 out of our 4 runners all ran new season or personal best times and one running only a second shy of his best time so far. In the boys varsity race we made huge improvements. Oliver Crosthwaite led the way with a time of 17:35, just a couple seconds off his best time from last season. Daniel Osborne once again posted a PR with a time of 18:36. They were followed by Donovan Schuyler (19:01), Tre'son Henley (19:34), Caleb Osborne (19:59), Kellen Dunn (20:34) and Cherif Sore (21:03), who all posted new personal bests times and earned the right to ring the PR Bell.
Not to be outdone the girls race took off at 10:30pm and they left it all on the course. Not only did most o the team run new personal bests, but many of them took big chunks of time off their old records. Leading the way with a big new best time was Laila Black as she took off quick, finishing the first mile in 6:46 and maintaining an overall pace of 6:55 to come away with a 5k PR of 21:29. She was followed by Kydee Shults who ran her 3rd PR in the last 3 weeks (22:40) . Gigi Perkins came in third for the team with a massive new PR of 22:58 taking a minute and 21 seconds off her previous best time, which she ran just last week. Bryley Wulff (23:34) had a breakout race, running her best time of the last two seasons. Sarah Wallace (24:30), Brooklyn Hall (25:21) and Chloe Moore (35:03) all ran great races as well.
The teams will hit the road again next weekend for the short trip to Springboro High School where a fast course could lead to even more improvement. Come out and cheer the Cats on with the boys race starting at 9am, and followed by the girls at 9:30.
