Last week the FHS track teams travelled to Ross on Wednesday and Friday for the SWBL championship meet. Wednesdays events consisted of prelims for individual events and the finals for the 4x800 relay and the 1600 meter run, while Friday was the finals for all other events. Our teams had a great showing and some incredible all time performances, including the girls 4x100 meter relay team breaking the school record that was set back in 1993 by a full half second. That relay team was made up of Jayla Wilbourn, Sienna Finton, Lily Cook and Brooklyn Steiner. They managed to both run a new school record, and come away with first place in what was a very close finish. Those same girls will look to improve upon their record this week at the district championship meet on Thursday at Trotwood Madison.

Overall the top scorer for the girls team was Brooklyn Steiner who not only was part of the record setting 4x100m team but also finished first overall in long jump, with a distance of 15 feet and 3rd overall in the 100 meter dash with a new personal best time of 12.64 seconds. Other great performances were seen from Sienna Finton with a 3rd place finish in the 300 hurdles, Audrey O'Hara with a 4th place finish in shot put, and Savannah Steiner with a 4th place finish in long jump.

The boys team was led by strong performances from Malachi Gipson and Connor Green, who both scored points in multiple events. Malachi led the team in points by taking first place in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.83 seconds as well as a 2nd place finish in the 100 (11.38) and being part of the 4x100m and 4x400m relay teams that both finished 2nd. Connor Green was the anchor leg for both the 4x800m and the 4x400m relay teams that both took second place. He also came away with a 3rd place finish in the 800m run and a 4th place finish in the 1600m run. Other great performances came from Christian Knipper (4th place in shotput), Eli Koss (2nd place in the 300 hurdles), the 4x800 meter relay team (2nd place - Oliver Crosthwaite, Daniel Osborne, Donovan Schuyler & Connor Green), the 4x400 meter relay team (2nd place - Ryan Michael, Malachi Gipson, Oliver Crosthwaite & Connor Green), and the 4 x 100 meter relay team (2nd place - Bryce Jordan, Jaylin Riley, Connor Young & Malachi Gipson).

This week the boys and girls track teams will be travelling to separate district meets as they are in different divisions this year, with the boys being division 1 and the girls division 2. The meets kick off with the boys team travelling to Bellbrook on Wednesday for prelims starting at 4pm and following that up by returning to Bellbrook on Friday for finals starting at 5pm. The girls team will travel to Trotwood Madison to compete in prelims on Thursday starting at 4:30pm and follow that up with finals on Saturday starting at 2:30pm. Come out and cheer on your Wildcats as they look to advance to the regional track championships next week.
