Last Friday the Franklin track teams travelled to Vandalia Butler for what would turn out to be an incredibly competitive track meet. This meet had many large division 1 teams competing in the field of 17 teams total, and many of the top marks in the state were recorded on Friday, including a new state record in boys pole vault, which was extremely exciting to witness. This meant that our Wildcats struggled to come away with many points, but we did have some great performances with lots of new PR's, season bests and athletes coming close to PR's.
The girls team was led by Brooklyn Steiner as the top scorer for the team. Brooklyn finished 6th in an extremely competitive girls 100 m dash with a time of 13.67 seconds. Brooklyn was also the anchor leg of the girls 4x200 meter relay team that managed a 7th place finish, along with teammates Reagan Pieschel, Kasey Jones and Jayla Wilbourn. Laila Black had a great race in the 1600 coming away with an 11th place finish and just missing a new PR with a time of 6:13.60. Sienna Finton also managed a 10th place finish in the high jump, with a height of 4 feet 6 inches.
The boys team managed to come away with some great performances just outside of the scoring places at the meet. Eli Koss finished 9th in the 300m hurdles just missing out on a PR even given a strong headwind for the final 100m of the race, and also finished 11th in the 110 hurdles. Tre'son Henley set a big new PR in the 400 and Oliver Crosthwaite who finished 10th in the 1600 with a time of 5:01.26.
This week the Franklin track teams will be at home competing in the Bartt Owens Invitational at the Franklin Stadium. Come out to cheer the teams on and honor former athlete Bartt Owens. The evening begins with field events starting at 4:30 followed by the running events at 5pm. Senior athletes will also be recognized during the meet this night. This is the only home meet for the Franklin track teams and we would love to have as much support as possible. Go CATS!!
