What a weekend for racing. The Wildcats cross country teams travelled to Indian Riffle Park in Kettering on Saturday morning for the Neal Charske Invitational, where lots of new personal bests were set. The weather was beautiful with temperatures in the 50's and lots of sunshine. With multiple ranked teams from throughout the state in attendance the competition was fierce and with a large hill that had to be traversed twice during the race everyone's times were that much more impressive.
The day started with the varsity men's race at 8:30 and our team was led by Daniel Osborne who set a new personal best time of 18:11.9 and in the process moved up a spot on Franklin's all time performers list to number 11. Joining him on the list of all time performers was Tre'son Henley who ran a 40 second PR with a time of 18:27.1 as the second Wildcat to finish. Just behind Tre were Donovan Schuyler (19:39) and Kellen Dunn (19:47), as well as Kian Gatliff who ran a new personal best time as well of 20:26.9. In the JV race Autsin Cook matched his best time of the season with a 22:33.4 and Milo Nau set a new personal best of 25:00.1.
In the women's race our team was led again by Laila Black who busted through the 20 minute barrier finishing in 19:52.8, which all so moved her up to number 3 all time in Franklin Cross Country history. She was followed by Sienna Finton with another great race in 20:51.4. Gigi Perkins came away with a new personal record time of 21:36.1 moving her up to number 9 all time. She was followed by Kydee Shults (22:18.9) who missed a PR by only 2 tenths of a second and then Bryley Wulff (24:42.5) with a new season best. This was one of the strongest team finishes Franklin's women's team has had in a very long time.
Next Saturday the teams will head to the Clark County Fairgrounds for the Jim Murray Invitational where we hope to again set some records as we wrap up the regular season. The Girls race begins at 9 am followed by the boys at 9:30 am. Come on out and cheer these Wildcats on.
