On Saturday morning the cross country teams travelled down to Kingswood park in Mason for the Kings Invitational. The course has a true cross country feel to it, as it takes place at a park that was a former golf course. There is a little bit of everything, with some open fields, woods, tall prairie grasses, and hills that are little more than just rolling. While it wasn't a course built for speed and PR's it was a great challenge that sets us up well for the SWBL Championship course in October.
The day got started with the women's varsity race at 8:30 am, and we had some great overall efforts. Leading the team, and finishing in the top ten were Laila Black (7th overall) in a time of 20:58.2 and Sienna Finton (10th overall) in a time of 21:05.8. Even though there were no PR's this week, there was a lot of gutsy racing that took place and our ladies should all be proud of their times.
In the men's race Daniel Osborne led the way, finishing just outside of the top ten with an 11th place overall finish. Kellen Dunn was clearly unaware of the fact that the course this week was the most difficult one of the season so far. He went out and ran a season best time of 20:02.9. Next week the teams head to Kettering for the Neal Charske Invitational. This is another course that boasts a large hill that the athletes must summit twice during the race. However, the atmosphere and crowd support are a huge benefit in this much larger and well attended race. Come out and cheer on the Wildcats with the Varsity boys getting the day started at 8:30am. The meet takes place at 2801 E Stroop Rd., Kettering, OH 45420, and our athletes would love to see and hear as much support their as we can give them.
