Clay Wells

Coach Wells is embarking on his second year as the Head Lacrosse Coach here in Franklin.  He served as the defensive coordinator for the Varsity Wildcats in 2022 and was promoted to the Head Coach position the following year.  His first year as Head Coach the Cats went 14-5, the first 10+ win season and first winning season in program history.  The team also garnered its first All-State selection in Face-off man Dawson Fitzpatrick.  We also had 3 All-Region selections in Aiden Creech, Ryan Kerns, and Danny Fitzpatrick.  Coach Wells was also selected as the first ever recipient of the Wildcat ESPY for Boys Sports Coach of the Year.

Coach Wells brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the program.  He’s been involved in lacrosse and coaching for over 13 years.  He was one of the founding members of the Miamisburg Lacrosse Club, Vice-President of the Board, and helped build the program from the ground up.  He began coaching in 2010.  He’s coached all grade levels from kindergarten to HS.  He created a summer travel team to increase the level of play in Dayton.  Coach Wells took a small break in coaching spring lacrosse to become a certified lacrosse official and served a little over 4 years.

The highlight of Coach Wells’ coaching career came when he was recruited to form a team and travel to Europe.  The team visited 4 countries, played 5 games against national teams, and returned home with a record of 5-0.  The highlights of the trip were: team visit to Dachau Holding Camp in Germany, swimming in the Danube River, seeing all the history, and enjoying a light lunch with the players at an outdoor café in Vienna, Austria.

Coach Wells is a graduate of Forest Hills HS in Marshville, NC where he played football, baseball, and ran track.  He earned his undergraduate degree in Political Science from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 1988 and went on to attain his Master’s Degree in Management from Webster University in 1993.  Coach Wells served 20 years in the US Air Force and retired in December 2008.  He currently works as a Contracting Officer at Wright Patterson Air Force Base.  Coach Wells, his wife Jeffersina, sons William and Iain, and daughter Alaina reside in Miamisburg.
